Thruxton is always a really important event in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship calendar if you’re going to have any chance of competing for the championship come the end of the season, but this year even more so because we’ll be visiting again in August.
So with that in mind, it was absolutely crucial that we brought home some solid points in all three races and continued working through our development programme with the new Toyota Corolla. It’s a challenging circuit at the best of times, but we have a really good foundation now moving forward and there are plenty of encouraging signs.
It also means we don’t have to carry as much weight through into the next event at Croft, which is always a positive and hopefully means we can start the weekend on the front foot.
We’re still well within reach of the top of the championship, which is a fantastic achievement given this year was always earmarked for developing the car ahead of 2020. To be ahead of schedule, already have a race win with the Toyota and still have so much potential left to unlock is a very good place to be in.
Everyone at Team Toyota GB with Ginsters and Speedworks Motorsport have been working tirelessly since we first picked the Corolla up to turn it into a championship contender, and all the signs are there that they’re on course to do exactly that.
A huge ‘thank you’ as always to everyone who came along at the weekend, as well as visiting Ginsters’ stand in the trade area. The best fans in British motorsport have really taken the best pasty maker in the country to heart, and it’s great to see so much positivity around the partnership.
