In celebration of Cornish Pasty Week we launch our new ‘Cornish Handcrafted’ range for everyone who loves extra special pasties.
As every pasty aficionado knows, a great deal of skill and expertise goes into creating the perfect pasty. To mark its 50th anniversary – baking in Cornwall since 1969 – we’re proud to announce the launch of our most luxurious pasties yet: the ‘Cornish Handcrafted’ range, for those who appreciate the very best.
The range has been developed by our development chefs in collaboration with Chris Eden, award-winning head chef of one of Cornwall’s prestigious Michelin-starred restaurants.
According to Chris: “The Cornish have been enjoying pasties for centuries, and it’s no surprise their fame has spread worldwide, with countless variations on the theme. Making them is an art, handed down through the generations. I was taught to crimp a pasty by my mother, and she was taught by hers.
“Ginsters’ Cornish Handcrafted range has been created for pasty lovers like me, who appreciate the extra care and expertise that goes into making pasties by hand, in the traditional way. This is our best ever pasty!”
The Cornish Handcrafted Range is made at our bakery in Callington in south east Cornwall from quality ingredients, including 100% British farmed meat, and wherever possible, vegetables grown at Hay Farm on the Rame Peninsular, just 15 miles from the bakery. The premium range launches during Cornish Pasty Week (24 February to 2 March) with a classic hand crimped Cornish Pasty and hand crimped Chicken, Chorizo and Cornish Gouda Pasty.
The Cornish Handcrafted Cornish Pasty is everything a pasty ought to be. The filling is a tasty mix of distinct Cornish ingredients: West Country steak – beef skirt as the traditional cut – with potato, onion and swede, finished with a dollop of Cornish clotted cream. It is encased in a culinary blend of light and flaky short crust and French puff pastry – the best of both worlds. Hand Crimping is the traditional finish for a pasty, an art passed down through the generations, and lovingly carried on by the our bakery team.
The Cornish Handcrafted Chicken, Chorizo and Cornish Gouda Pasty will be a sure hit with everyone who enjoys traditional with a twist. It is filled with 100% succulent British roast chicken mixed with authentic chorizo, potato, onion, swede and piquanté peppers, plus a Westcountry cheese hit thanks to Cornish Gouda and mature cheddar. For the finest quality, a flourish of spring onion, garlic and parsley lends fragrance. This is wrapped in melt-in-the-mouth pastry, and hand crimped to finish.
Although pasties make great ‘food on the move’ as a delicious and convenient meal in itself, Chris Eden believes they deserve to be at the centre of mealtimes too. “For a quick, satisfying dinner I like to accompany a pasty with something fresh, simple and seasonal. At this time of year, that might be honey-roasted root veg; in summer, green beans tossed with bacon, red onion and garlic.”
After their launch in Cornish Pasty Week, the pasties will be available nationwide in Tesco from 3 June, at £2.25 each.
